A video of about 10 soldiers kicking and stomping a few hooligans amid a cheering crowd sparked debate on social media.
The video clip, taken at a local fair in Bangkok, was posted on Wednesday by Facebook user Mo-Feen Kadsuwan, with the message: "In this video clip, the soldiers were beating up the hooligans. The crowd were cheering and clapping because the hooligans behaved rudely and disrespectfully.
"But if the police did it, they would be transferred. Right? Thai police are cursed. I feel for them."
Most net users were happy with the soldiers for "disciplining the scum of the society" and preventing them from troubling others.
Facebook user Bu Patcharanat ridiculed Thai police, saying they would not take action against the young thugs because they would not get any money out of it.
YouTube user Sayo Bake wrote: "If the police want the people's support, they have to properly enforce the law and stop exploiting the public."
